A LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE SAVE OUR STATION COMMITTEE
We need your support to help save the most widely known and photographed landmark in Richmond County.
Built in 1900, the Seaboard Passenger Station located in Hamlet has been designated a North Carolina Historical Landmark. The late Queen Anne style architecture of the station attests to the important role Hamlet played in rail service at the turn of the century. No other small town had a station of this magnitude.
After years of negotiations between the city of Hamlet and the railroad, a solution has been reached that will save the station. The railroad will deed the station to the city on condition that it be moved from its present location by the city and it can be done. The same company that successfully moved the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse has assured the city that the station can be moved.
This historical landmark is in deplorable condition and in real danger of being lost if something is not done to preserve it now. Funding for the project will come from several grants but they will not cover the complete restoration and that is why we need your help.
We, the Save Our Station Project Team, have willingly taken on the monumental responsibility of raising the necessary funds to complete the project. Please help us reach our goal by including this worthwhile cause in your charitable budget and help preserve this Richmond County landmark.
Contributions are tax deductiable as allowed by law.
